ALEMTSEHAY WEDAJO
Artist Alemtsehay Wedajo is probably the best and most well-known Ethiopian artist, versatile enough to be on stage, acting or directing, a song-writer and lyricist, a journalist and a published poet. She has written the lyrics to more than 30 of the most beloved contemporary Ethiopian songs, sung by such veteran Ethiopian vocalists such as Tilahun Gesesse, Mahmoud Ahmed, Aster Aweke, Teodros Tadesse, Muluken Melesse, Hirut Bekele, Tsehaye Yohannes, Asnaqetch Worku, Melkamu Tebeje and Kuku Sebsibe just to name a few. As a writer Alemtsehaye has also written columns for mainstream magazines and newspapers in Ethiopia. As an actress she has acted on the stage, as well as in Televised dramas, as well as in the first Ethiopian feature films. Alemtsehaye was the first female director at the National Theatre. She was Founder and Director of Ethiopia’s Children’s Theatre of Ethiopia and for fourteen years she was Chairperson of the Ethiopian Actor’s Association.
