Poetry

Over the last 10 years, Tayitu Cultural Center’s monthly poetry night, “YeWerru Gitm Mishit”, held on the last Friday of the month, has become a mainstay, a home away from home for the disproportionately large number of Ethiopian performing artists outside of Ethiopia.  In this monthly celebration of Ethiopian literary tradition Tayitu keeps Ethiopian poetry and verse alive for future generations, by inviting and hosting well-known Ethiopian writers from around the world to come present their works to an ever growing audience. Tayitu fulfills it promise to keep the rich variety of Ethiopian artistic tradition vibrant by introducing younger audiences to classics in Ethiopian Literature that they would rarely have access to.  In order to further the dialogue with its audiences on the universality of shared human values Tayitu also introduces the larger Ethiopian audience to classics in Western literature.
